Fruits

Fruits are the first and foremost source of food known to mankind. Fruits account for a large fraction of the entire world’s agricultural output. In general a fruits means the fleshy seed associated structures of a plant that are sweet or sour and edible in the raw state such as apples, bananas, grapes, oranges, and strawberries. Though seed is an integral part of any of the fruits, seedless fruits is not uncommon to the world. Fresh fruits are generally high in vitamins, fiber and water. Fruits are eaten as fresh fruits, jams or preservatives. Fruits are also used in manufactured foods or beverages such as fruit juices or alcoholic beverages. Regular consumption of fruits is generally associated with reduced risks of several diseases and regulates aging. Apart from human consumption fruits are also used for various other purposes like colors, candles, repellents, dyes, insulation and brushes. Due to high water content in fruits the shelf life of fresh fruits is much lesser than dry fruits (dried fruits). Here we discuss few basic fruits classified as under:
